The Free Nationals continue to build on their reputation as one of the most dynamic bands in contemporary music. Best known as Anderson .Paak’s live band, the group has toured the world, collaborating with and drawing inspiration from countless artists along the way. While their influences span generations, their sound remains rooted in funk — paying tribute to pioneers such as Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, and Al Green, while pushing the genre forward for a new era.
Their Grammy-nominated, self-titled debut album featured an all-star cast of collaborators including the late Mac Miller, Syd, Anderson .Paak, Kali Uchis, T.I., JID, Westside Gunn, Conway, Chronixx, Daniel Caesar, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Kadhja Bonet, MIKNNA, Benny Sings, and Joyce Wrice. Released in December 2019, the album has sold over 265,000 units and earned a 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. Standout singles “Beauty & Essex” (ft. Daniel Caesar & Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and “Time” (ft. Mac Miller & Kali Uchis) both achieved RIAA Gold certification.
Following a sold-out headline tour, the band returned to international stages in 2022 alongside Anderson .Paak, supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers across Europe and the United Kingdom, and closing the year supporting Herbie Hancock at the Hollywood Bowl. Festival highlights have included standout mainstage performances at Okeechobee Festival and Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, where they performed to a crowd of 80,000.
In recent years, The Free Nationals have continued to release new music, collaborate widely, and bring their electrifying live show to audiences around the world — carrying the spirit of funk forward while honoring the lineage that shaped them
