The New Generation Jazz Big Band is an exciting evolution of the New Generation Jazz Futures educational programme, which delivers weekly workshops for young musicians aged 8–18. Bringing together players from both Jazz Future Futures (our younger ensemble) and Jazz Futures (our senior group), the big band creates a unique, mixed-age space where emerging talent can collaborate, learn and perform at scale. 

Developed in response to the growing ambition of our ensembles, the project gives young musicians the opportunity to experience large ensemble playing, tackling big band repertoire while building confidence, musicality and connection across age groups. 

The band has worked closely with leading artists including Kneebody, Sam Every, Allexa Nava, Alex Hitchcock, Jamie Leeming and Oli Howe, alongside specially commissioned works created for the ensemble. Their repertoire spans the rich traditions of jazz through to progressive, boundary-pushing new-wave compositions.
